A traditional tavern
Can Roca is an antique tavern situated on the road that crosses the small town of Esponellà.
They offer traditional Catalan food with some variations that follow their own idiosyncrasies. The house specialties are the meat cannelloni’s, although there are several dishes in the menu that use pumpkin as an ingredient, which is not very common.
I ate some pumpkin cannelloni, which was delicious and for dessert I finished with a candied pumpkin ricotta, also great. I am a great lover of cucurbits and had to take advantage...
The menu is extensive and focuses on garden produce and meats, although there were also some fish dishes. The wine list, taking into account the category of the locale, is wide and varied. The cuisine is completely homemade and the servings more than enough.
The price, given the quality of the ingredients can be considered correct: between 25 and 30 euros per person.
Access is reached taking the turn-off to Esponellà on the road leading to Besalú and Banyoles. Then, straight ahead, you can’t miss it.
The five or six mile stretch to the restaurant allows us to enjoy a rural area not yet exploited by the real estate boom. I recommend it.
