Campo Fiori Square

Colors, smells, and tastes

Excellent

In 1456, Pope Callixtus III paved this area as part of a major project preparing for the construction of several important buildings nearby, including the Orsini Palace. After the project, the area attracted a bustling horse market once held in Piazza Navona and became a center of commercial activity. These days, it's one of my favorite places in Rome. It has beautiful flowers, outdoor produce markets, small shops, and lively outdoor cafes. Having a look through the stores and grabbing something to eat at the Salumeria on the corner is one of the best Sunday plans I know.

Campo de' Fiori

The Piazza del Campo de las Flores is named after the area in the fifteenth century, where all kinds of flowers and plants were grown. Since 1889, at its center stands the statue of the philosopher Giordano Bruno by Italian sculptor Ettore Ferrari. Since 1869, it has housed an outdoor market which, in the evenings becomes full of tapas bars with large numbers of young people. A great place for a drink in one of its terraces.

Traditional market

Great

This square is known for its traditional open-air food market held in the mornings. In the afternoons and on Sundays, it's also a good place to find cheap cafes and trattorias with young, lively atmospheres. At the center of the square, there's a statue of Giordano Bruno, a religious man ve was burned alive for his theory that the sun was but another simple star in our universe.

Don't forget to visit campo dei fiori.

Excellent

It has a very big market of fruit, vegetables, meat and flowers. There are also some great restaurants around to dine or have an apperitivo. Don't miss this place.
