Desert Walks
From Leh I took a bus that dropped me off at a crossroads, about 30km further west. I was looking for Phey to get something to eat and spend the day. Instead I found myself in a desert area with nothing and no one. Following the directions given to me by the bus driver, when he pointed to parched peaks, I walked for almost 2 hours to find the base camp. It's right next to a bend in the mighty river Indus, below a wooded and sheltered area by a small mountain of icy northern winds, made it seem more an oasis than a base camp. This small camp is one of the points of departure and return for many hikers, mountaineers and climbers wanting to attack the peaks of the Zanskar mountains, peaks like "Dung Dung La" (4800m.) or "Stok Kangri "(6200m) They offer climbing trips over several days or for as many days as you'd like.
