Hotel Calle Mayor

El Hotel Calle Mayor is found in the historic neighborhood of Logroño and has managed to create an atmosphere which is fresh but still respects the beauty of the original 16th century structure.

The only downside, perhaps, is the breakfast area which is a bit cramped (the building’s not that big), but the rooms are very nice.

Besides the original stone staircase, the hotel still maintains the building’s original stone archway, wood lattice-work, and molding.

This was our little “Santiago” during the Rocesvalles-Logroño stretch. Finding this little hotel at 2 in the afternoon after a 29km. walk and sleeping for 5 nights in backpacker hostels with shared bathrooms and communal rooms is a real joy.

It’s very centric, only a few steps from the pilgrims’ hostel and about five minutes from Laurel street, which we made a beeline for after our shower. And what a shower! The best I can remember.

The hotel is urban and small, with only 12 rooms. The building is a very tastefully-restored palace from the 16th century and with plenty of light, large plasma-screen televisions, dark floors, massive pillows, and discrete staff who are both quiet and very welcoming.

This is a small city hotel, with twelve rooms that overlook the historic center of Logroño through a restored XVI century palace, the style of which beautifully combines the past and present. Montse and Jose are two very nice people who will look after you very well during your stay. Everything about this hotel is great.
