Excellent

I was really excited to visit La Palma. The island is beautiful, and I really wanted to see Caldera de Taburiente. As it was my first trip there and I was busy seeing everything I could, I didn't have time to hike up the mountain, but from the spectacular views I saw from the vantage points, there's no question I'll go back and dedicate more time to hike up calmly.

It's important to stop at the Visitor's Center so that they can inform you about the differnt routes and the conditions they're in. The most popular routes to do in a day are the Cumbrecity vantage point route, from where the majority of the pictures of the place are taken. There's also the Brecitos al Barranco de las Angustias route, which is almost all downhill, the Nacientes de Marcos y Cordera and Los Tiles route, along the exterior part of the crater, a 6-hour downhill hike.

Big changes in elevation with great views

The Caldera de Taburiente National Park is the reason we decided to travel to the Canary Islands for a few days. The park could be described as a giant circle, shaped like a cauldron, with big and sudden drops, but with spectacular views in every direction.

We had seen thousands of pictures taken from its crests 2,400 meter-high crests (like the Roque de los Muchachos) that surround the crater's central depression that drops down to sea level in just a little over 50 kilometers. Because of that, we decided to walk from the top to the bottom.

We decided to go to the visitor's center beforehand, which is located in El Paso.

The beautiful island

The island of La Palma, "the beautiful island," as Madonna mentioned it in one of her famous songs, is the most elevated in the world.

You'll find an abruptly changing and beautiful orography, filled with volcanoes, gullies, ravines, and exuberant vegetation. The island's routes take visitors to an enigmatic, heavenly, and surreal world.

The hike up from the ravine is an array of color, with close-up views of the volcano's crater(Caldera de Taburiente ). It's a dustpan experience, a truly unthinkable and unique experience.
