Cabezo de la Jara is located 7 km west of the town of Puerto Lumbreras and 90 km southwest of the city of Murcia. Its history is linked in many ways to that of Puerto Lumbreras, as they have a common past. Due to its privileged position, during the Middle Ages, Muslims and Christians fought to seize it. Its proximity to Nogalte and Lorca, coupled with border insecurity, made it very attractive. Its economy has been historically based on agriculture, but mining and fishing were also important.
