Queen of the seas
In the heart of ballasts whalers neighborhood you can see the chapel which is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Success, built in the 16th Century, situated on a steep, narrow street in the town. In order to get a good view,you can climb up the stairs, although you can not go inside because it is very small, but from outside you can admire the beautiful baroque altarpiece by Luis Fernandez de la Vega. Our Lady of Good Success is patron of ballasts and homage is paid to her on the 8th September to coincide with the Day of Asturias. There is a nice, albeit tragic story about devotion to this virgen.
In 1944 there was a gale in the harbor of ballasts and several boats disappeared at sea, women and families of the fishermen took to the Virgin to guide the sailors to the port.
