Gospel Mass in New York
We stayed at a friend's house in Brooklyn for two weeks and since we've always wanted to attend a gospel service, we check around to see if there was one in the area. We were recommended to go to the Brooklyn Tabernacle. Arriving there, I admit I felt a little embarrassed at first: we were the only "touristy" white faces amid of sea of black churchgoers dressed to the nines. We were with casual clothes, nothing disrespectful of course, but not fancy either. However, I wondered if, given its religious nature, someone might get offended by the fact that we were there to only see it out of curiosity without actually being believers. Our friend is a Jewish New Yorker and told us there wasn't a problem, but for a moment I felt out of place.
