Explore the Underground Caverns
Bonnechere Caves is a bit off the beaten path, essentially in the middle of nowhere in central Ontario between the villages of Egansville and Douglas. However, it is worth the drive to see the Bonnechere Caves. You would never know that such a fascinating place lies below the surface of the ground we walk on. At Bonnechere Caves, you get a history lesson, an entertaining tour, and a chance to explore caves all in one place. At the start of our tour, we learned about the ancient fossils that have been discovered on the property and inside the caves. Once we were down in the caverns, we could even see fossils trapped in the rock walls themselves.
The cave itself was very well lit. We could see many stalactites that hung from the ceiling like icicles. Visitors should take care not to touch the stalactites as this can disrupt their growth or kill them entirely. The tour lasted about an hour and it would be fun for people young and old. Lots of kids were here and it would be highly educational for children! We really enjoyed ourselves down in the caves.
