Cruise on Lake Geneva

These yellow boats function as transport between the different shores of Lake Leman in Geneva and are a delight for tourists as well as locals. Tourists enjoy a pleasant lake crossing, and locals use them as a convenient and cheap method of transportation to get to work. The same bus ticket (3.50CHF) can be used in any of the 4 lines: M1: Pâquis - Mollard - Pâquis. M2: Pâquis - quai Gustave Ador - Pâquis. M3: Pâquis - Genève-plage - Pâquis. M4: Genève- plage - Perle du Lac - Genève-plage. They run every 10 minutes from 7.30 am - 18:00 pm (approximately and depending on the line) and I advise going on a sunny day, as the lake is calmer.

Beautiful Lake Leman is the most striking feature of Geneva with its Jet d'Eau, a water jet, in the middle. Well, the water jet may not be that special, but it is undeniable that the lake is spectacular. A very interesting way to cross it is in one of the cruise ships. The views of the lake, the city and the Alps are very beautiful, and if it is a clear sunny day, the trip is really worth it. Indeed, the Geneva Tourist Office sells packages for hotel + transport card + lake cruise that are really well priced.

General Navigation Company (CGN) makes several trips a day on Lake Léman. Depending on the time you can take an 8 hour trip (to Montreaux) or shorter trips of about half an hour - in any case, it's worth it. You can purchase tickets from any of the ticketing booths on both sides of the lake. Explanations on board are in English and French and the views are just stunning - on clear days you can see as the summit of Mont Blanc and other Alpine peaks. The shortest way ticket is around 19 francs (a little less if you use the transportation Geneve Card)
