Great craft beer in Barcelona
The BlackLab Brewery in Barcelona is an excellent new face in Spain's nascent craft beer scene. It's located in the Palau de Mar (Barceloneta area) and has the distinction of actually brewing its own and of having created a fun, tasty menu to match.
The atmosphere is bright and welcoming with a casual feel and good music coming through the speakers. The beer is brewed on premises and one of the owners (an American, as is common among Spain's craft breweries) was nice enough to show us a bit of their set-up. On tap, they generally have 3-4 varieties including a stout, an ale, and a very subtle and tasty IPA, all served cold and by the pint or half pint.
The menu is kind of a greatest hits of Asian and American cuisine; just imagine the top seller of every food truck in a city like Portland and you'll have a good idea of what he menu is like: hearty burgers, pork belly buns which expertly walk the line between sweet and savory, dumplings, pulled pork sandwiches, ramen, etc.
We were mainly there for the beer, but we ordered the pork buns and Patatas Black lab (beer-battered fries served hot with ranch dressing) and we devoured both in record time.
If you're looking for a laid-back place to enjoy some handcrafted pints and tasty grub in Barcelona, I'd highly suggest checking out BlackLab!
