Black Gate
This door is not just a door but a whole building that served as the main entrance to the castle of Newcastle. The door was added around 1250, forming an addition to the north side of the castle. There was two towers with rooms for the guards on each side. It probably had a flat roof but in 1618 James I rented the building to a wealthy nobleman, who added the roof and remodeled the interior. In the 70s, they started digging around to find the oldest parts of the castle. Pedestrian bridges were added to allow the passage of people, instead of the old bridges that no longer bore the weight. There
