Bison Reserve
Next to the Natural Park of Białowieża we find this reserve, which I must say, is one of the most important attractions of the park as people want to see the animals, especially the bison. Im forest it is difficult to see them since there are only 400 of them running wild. Undoubtedly the star of the park is the European bison who is still alive today thanks to the conservation program of the 20s in the XX century. It looks similar to the American bison, but lighter in build. Its silhouette is solid, with well developed forequarters, large broad head and strong cross. The coat is a dark Brown colour, long, and particularly abundant around the head, shoulders and neck.
The species remains at risk. Its low genetic diversity, the result of inbreeding, makes these animals particularly vulnerable to viruses. In Poland are very highly protected and are a great symbol in the country. Zubr is Polish for bison and gives its name to beers, vodkas and many other products. They can be seen up close and are quite impressive! I loved them, htey are so beautiful. I was so excited when I saw them! It is an unforgettable experience!
