Biblioteca de Caravelas

Localizada as margens de uma foz histórica (na qual foi travada uma das batalhas da guerra de independência), a cidade de Caravelas no extremo sul da Bahia encanta por suas belezas naturais. O ponto mais próximo do Arquipélago dos Abrolhos, Caravelas foi desde cedo palco de ocupação nativa e europeia. A construção do vilarejo que daria origem a cidade só tomou corpo no século XVII, embora a região seja uma das pioneiras do Brasil. Desta trajetória histórica e cultural, ficaram alguns marcos, como a passagem dos jesuítas, as batalhas na independência, a passagem de Charles Darwin no Beagle, dentre outras. Alguns patrimônios materiais ficaram de pé para relembrar a trajetória marcante da cidade, como a Biblioteca de Caravelas. O prédio térreo (como são caracteristicamente as construções tombadas na região), tem uma fachada simples, com a data da construção, e restauração feitas pela Fundação Cultural do Município (que apesar e instrutiva, poderia ser feita com uma placa). Um dos diversos centros culturais da cidade, é um dos lugares onde o visitante pode ser informar sobre a trajetória desta bela cidade. Um roteiro alternativo, já que a região é notabilizada por suas belezas naturais, deve ser feito por aqueles que buscam entender a cultura regional.

Located on the banks of a historic mouth (in which one of the battles of the war of independence was fought), the city of Caravelas in the extreme south of Bahia enchants by its natural beauties. The closest point of the Abrolhos Archipelago, Caravelas was from early stage of native and European occupation. The construction of the village that would give rise to the city only took shape in the XVII century, although the region is one of the pioneers of Brazil. From this historical and cultural trajectory, there were some landmarks, such as the passage of the Jesuits, the battles in independence, the passage of Charles Darwin in the Beagle, among others. Some material patrimonies stood to recall the city"s striking trajectory, such as the Caravelas Library. The ground floor building (as are characteristically the buildings in the region), has a simple façade, with the date of construction, and restoration done by the Cultural Foundation of the Municipality (which although instructive, could be made with a plaque). One of the many cultural centers of the city, is one of the places where the visitor can be to inform about the trajectory of this beautiful city. An alternative route, since the region is notable for its natural beauties, must be done by those who seek to understand the regional culture.
