Betancuria

This beautiful municipality was one of the first capitals of Canary Islands. I love the peace and tranquility that you breathe there, as well as the result of the restoration of houses and churches.

The truth is that it is impressive to see the town emerge from the middle of nothing, from a small valley. I think that what I liked the most were the remains of the convent and church. I missed a place where I could rest and drink something. Anyway, it is a visit that one must do.

Gothic-Norman Style

In the west coast of the island of Fuerteaventura I discover the small locality of Betancuria which, presided by its church-cathedral, was the ancient capital of the island until 1834. Its name comes from the French founder Bethencourt, who turned it into the political, administrative and religious center of the island in the 15th century.

The church-cathedral of Santa María de Betancuria is its most important monument. The bell tower and the columns preserve some of the remains of the primitive construction using a Gothic-Norman style. The visit to the museums of sacred art and the archeological one are very interesting, both with historic collections of great value.
