A piece of time lost in the countryside
Following a tour of the Roanne area that led me to discover a 15th century church, I arrived with my friend (by car) at the small town of "La Bénisson-Dieu". The first was that we found a beautiful building, with roofs in the style of the Hospices de Beaune, coloured tiles, and painted, that allowed for beautiful autumn light. The second surprise was upon entering the abbey, where we discovered that the church that we were in actually had very little to compare to what the abbey had been like in medieval times when it was created.
We strolled through the deserted corridors of the luminous chapel trying to understand the importance that such a place could have for centuries. It's sad that there was no more information, but the sculptures and other tombstones did give some indication of the site's history.
