Bellefontaine

Bellefontaine is a small fishing village on the west coast of Martinique. It is situated between Le Carbet and Case-Pilote. Only 11 square km, it is the smallest town of the island and is half embedded in a small valley surrounded by cliffs covered by lush tropical vegetation. It has a population of about 1,500, mostly fishermen. Site to see are The "Torgileo" (former boat-shaped restaurant), the church of Saint Pierre aux Liens (from 1962) and the cemetery where the painter Jules Marillac was buried. Do not miss the interesting fish market, with stalls located along the beach and the Caribbean
