A nice place
I tend to like the concept of bed & breakfast, which often offers a more personal touch than you'd find at a hotel or other type of accommodation. In this case, I was staying in the centre of Brussels, and I wanted to escape the cold business hotels of the European capital. The location is quite good, not far from the centre, and there are some metro stations within a 10 minute walk. The neighbourhood is a typical old bohemian Brussels neighbourhood, which is now popular with immigrants. Some older people may feel a bit uncomfortable walking through the streets at night, especially if they go alone, because it's common to see people standing in the shop doors.
Well, you'll find the same in most large cities, and we didn't have any problems, but some people might not like it. Although we had the exact address, we almost missed the entrance to the B & B, which is marked by nothing more than a little sign. After finally making your way inside, you can see an old site that has been completely renovated, making it new, fresh and modern. There's an area by the entrance with a table and casual low seating, ideal for socialising with your friends. Then, after a glass door, there's the reception area, which is also where they serve breakfast.
You can have breakfast at a round table, along with other guests, a touch that I really appreciated. The decor is eclectic, with things from many different countries, which looks really good. Most of the accommodations are lofts, which are accessed by ladders, although they were full during my trip, so I stayed in the annex, in an older apartment - not renovated in the same way, which is a pity. I stayed in an apartment on the second floor, accessed by very narrow, steep stairs (no elevator). The apartment is huge, with bright glass windows and wooden floors.
There's an old but comfortable sofa, a flat screen TV, free wifi, a wooden table with chairs for dining, and a kitchen. The bathroom was the biggest disappointment, small and old, but other than that it was fine. I will say that the apartment has a particular style, very modern, so it might not be so popular with older or more traditional tourists, but for my part, I was happy - although a little disappointed after seeing the photos of the newer lofts online. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of variety: cereals, juices, some sausages, various breads and jams, toast and pancakes, and a small coffee machine. Price wise, it was cheap for Brussels, but one night still cost 100 € - but you do have a huge apartment available to yourself. I really enjoyed it, and would be happy to stay here again - particularly if I can get one of the cooler renovated lofts!
