Basílica San Nicolás de Bari

Si bien originariamente esta iglesia fundada en el año 1791 en la esquina que hoy se conoce como Carlos Pellegrini y Corrientes fue demolida para la construcción de la Av. 9 de Julio, se inicia la construcción del nuevo edificio en el año 1931 en el sitio en que actualmente se encuentra siendo finalizada en 1933 y consagrada en 1935. De frente simétrico con el escudo de San Nicolás, un friso en relieve e imágenes de cuatro santos sobre el friso y dos más en la saliente balcón, puedo decir que se conservan de la iglesia original la pila bautismal, las campanas y la imagen de la Virgen de los Desamparados, patrona de Valencia, que fuera traída desde España y se encuentra en una capilla lateral a la izquierda. Su estado es excelente, impecable y bien cuidado, tiene seis magníficos y coloridos murales de mosaiquitos venecianos, a la derecha del altar mayor de estilo rococó y ante coro barroco, donde se encuentra él Sagrario, hay una imagen del primer santo argentino San Héctor Valdivielso santificado por el Papa Juan Pablo II, un hermano de la congregación De La Salle asesinado conjuntamente con otros 8 hermanos de la misma comunidad y del pasionista Beato Inocencio de la Inmaculada durante la Revolución en Asturias como puede verse en el [poi=735541] Monolito en los Jardines del Santuario [/poi] en Mondoñedo. En esta Basílica bautizamos a nuestro primer hijo, Pedro, en enero de 1993. Años más tarde nos enteramos que el primer Santo que tuvo la Argentina, San Héctor Baldivielso, también fue bautizado 80 años antes en la misma basílica. Al momento de la canonización de San Héctor, mis hijos asistían al colegio La Salle, congregación a la que pertenecía. Fue muy emocionante, entre otras cosas, enterarnos de la coincidencia del lugar del bautismo del ahora Santo y mi hijo.
