Basilica of San Martino Ai Monti

La Basilica dei santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti si trova a Roma, nel rione Monti. Fu fondata da Silvestro I nel IV secolo. Nel 500, la chiesa fu ricostruita e dedicata ai santi Martino di Tours e a Silvestro I da papa Simmaco. L'interno è assolutamente sfarzoso e ricco di affreschi ovunque, ma purtroppo non mi è stato possibile fare delle foto. Ha inoltre tre navate con colonne antiche. Una lampada d'argento è conservata nella sacrestia.

The Basilica of Saints Martino ai Monti is located in Rome, in the Monti. It was founded by Sylvester I in the fourth century. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and rich in frescoes everywhere, but unfortunately I was unable to take photos. It also has three naves with ancient columns. Il Rione Monti è uno dei miei preferiti a Roma, con le sue piazzette e gli scorci inaspettati che si aprono sul Colosseo, i baretti coperti di erica e le fontanelle. Proprio un bel posto. In questo rione c’è la Basilica dei Santi Silvestro e martino ai Monti. La basilica risale al 4° secolo e fu fondata da Silvestro I. L’esterno è abbastanza modesto, un po’ piccolo, schiacciato tra le case addossate di questo rione, ma all’interno è tutt’altra storia. È ampolloso, stracolmo di decorazioni e affreschi, davvero sfarzoso, con bellissime colonne antiche che dividono l’interno della chiesa in tre navate. Mi è davvero piaciuto molto, soprattutto la volta a botte con i cassettoni decorati, era ben illuminata, fresca e pulita.
