Basílica de San Antonio de Padua

Una de las iglesias más antiguas y pintorescas de Nuku´alofa es la basílica de San Antonio de Padua. A simple vista parece una enorme carpa donde todos los domingos se reúnen cientos de fieles para rezar en familia. Pero además de eso, es también la iglesia más importante y venerada de la capital de Tonga. Normalmente la familia real (Topuo VI y su esposa) acostumbran a acudir a misa en esta basílica, rodeados de sus fieles ciudadanos y casi todos los actos importantes se celebran también aquí. Esta basílicia además, está justo en frente de las tumbas reales donde están enterrados todos los miembros de la familia real y el linaje Topuo.

One of the oldest and most picturesque churches of Nuku"alofa is the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua. At first glance looks like a huge tent where every Sunday hundreds of faithful gather to pray in family. But besides that, it is also the most important and revered church in the capital of Tonga.
