Santuario Nacional Nuestra Señora de Coromoto

The Virgin of Coromoto is the patron saint of Venezuela. Guanare was the city where she appeared over 350 years ago. This cathedral was consecrated on January 7, 1996, and inaugurated with a solemn Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II on February 10, 1996. Visiting the church is practically a must, whether you are Catholic or practise any other faith: There are few people who are not impressed by the its, its striking design and the beauty of stained glass. A very special detail that is hidden in the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Coromoto, is a valuable collection of religious objects that are behind the altar, preserved today almost as a secret for parishioners and tourists in the area.
