Feel at Home
Vang Vieng has hundreds of restaurants and bars. Everyone tries to attract tourists with neon signs, and comfortable seats and even beds, or with giant TV screens where Friends is always playing. But, the bar where I felt more comfortable in this city is nothing like any of these. The humble shops in the narrow streets of the city, usually put out simple, wooden tables with a few chairs. It is a sort of terrace for people to have some beers at prices much cheaper than in the typical bar (a 3/4 beer costs less than a euro). But the best thing is not the price, but that from these tables you can see how these people live, because while you have your beer they keep doing the daily chores, cut potatoes, make rice bags wrapped in bamboo leaves, gossip and look after their children ...
