This is the highest mountain in West and Central Africa, hard to see though, as it is always covered by clouds. From Buea can take their rise, hiring the services of a local guide and a permit from the Cameroon Ministry of Tourism, all compulsory. Easy, once you come to Buea, where do localizaréis once all the formalities. Of course, knowing that the climb consists of about 27 km., Saving a height of 3,000 m., And in the rainy season is not really possible, or very difficult. Precisely this was my case, so we settle with trying to glimpse the summit, they had some oversight in the clouds ... Not so from Buea, and Limbe move a few days, the most important town on the coast, one day we decided to approach the area where the last eruption had spread its lava, toward the sea. Over there we walked for a while, set in a sea of lava that is already covering of ferns and other green plants ... rabid green and full of life. Next door, palm oil plantations, including processing factory with produce at the foot of the famous volcano of the Cameroon exported raw materials. When was the last eruption? as neither more nor less than 1.999, the sixth century eruption (the first was during the filming of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, in 1982). For now, the s. XXI has not been released yet. Walking between the lava, seeing nothing else on the horizon (and not able to see the summit, or even the Mount Etinde or "Little Mount Cameroon" of 1,713 m. In height, facing the sea), because of the clouds defrauded a little, yet gave the landscape a more mysterious. One may think that it has moved to the era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth ... or at least that we have always described this habitat, surrounded by volcanoes :-). Dinosaurs had, but never forget the multicolored grasshopper remained still on a stone. She seemed dressed in one of those fabrics look how well the Africans. A couple of days later, back in Douala and about to spend our last night in this country, way the hotel watching the sunset, which was especially nice. Among the horizontal clouds that were staining the entire range of orange, red, blue, indigo, violet ... make out the shape of a mountain. Note that Douala is about 70 km from the volcano. I asked and sure enough, they confirmed, was Mount Cameroon. It looked huge, and with a silhouette "book" as far as volcanoes are concerned. Probably would have been awesome to behold from the coast, but ces't the Fri Maybe that's why his vision, and about to leave, it was more exciting. It seemed to have been found to say goodbye ... :).
Monte Camerún, o Fako (nombre local), 4.100 m.
