A remarkable chapel
One of the remarkable chapels of the 14 that make up the interior of the Cathedral of Santo Domingo is the Baptism Chapel, or San Juan Bautista. It is built in the Renaissance style, covered by a ribbed Gothic vault, topped with stone skulls. In the centre is a huge marble baptismal font from the early twentieth century, and the walls are lined with tiles. On one wall, there is a picture of the baptism of Jesus, and on the opposite wall, in a niche, a painting of the Immaculate Conception.
