Banks of the Abbey
This is one of the liveliest parts of Limerick. It is next to the River Abbey which crosses the city and divides the modern area and the medieval district. There are plenty of very nice bars and restaurants along the water. The sailors used to come to fish in this river, but now that they are out at sea, there is no business. It is a river for leisure, where you can take boat trips to explore the region. Until recently, Limerick had a bad reputation in Ireland. As it was an industrial city and a base for sailors, it was said to have a lot of fighting ... but now is a very quiet town with a dynamic university and many young people.
