A fascinating site
Located in the great valley of Kilmartin, on the west coast of the Scottish highlands, the archaeological site of Ballymeanoch is actually composed of three distinct elements, developed by Celtic populations between 6000 and 3500 years ago! The first element is the menhirs, or standing stones, that we immediately noticed. Some stand in small holes that were dug for use in ceremonies in connection with the sun. The second element is a small tomb, or "cairn", and finally there's a ceremonial circular area, or "henge", that is a little harder to see today. A fascinating site to visit to learn more
