Mont St. Michel a town based around its 4 churches and basilicas
To go to visit the Mont St Michel, I decided to stay in the village of Avranches: a great decision which I do not regret! Avranches is a city connected to the Mont and its abbey, as the bishop of Avranches who ordered and organized the building of the abbey of Mont. In Avranches there is the "Scriptorial" museum with manuscripts of the monks of Mont St Michel, with a few that are centuries old! The city is organized around its 4 churches and basilicas, another sign of its historical-religious history. But also this city's recent history, with the destruction of part of the center by the bombings of WWII, and its liberation by General Patton.
Also, for those who want to eat well or go out for a beer, Avranches has many restaurants of all types (French, Asian, Italian, ...), and some bars, plus the basics: supermarket, shops, post , banks, cinema, etc ... A 20-minute drive from Mont St Michel, (Sundays care no bus to Mont St Michel, special trains in summer), a good place to stop for discovering the region!
