L'autel Tzompantli représente la pratique chez les anciens méso-américain de décapitation victimes de sacrifices humains et de préserver leurs crânes dans une sorte de palissade en bois. On y trouve dans celui de Tlatelolco, plus de 170 cranes alignés. Le tzompantli était un autel où on empalait les têtes des captifs tués pour honorer les dieux . Le sacrifice chez les mayas, aztèques ou autres peuples de la région était un grand honneur.
The altar represents Tzompantli practice among ancient Mesoamerican beheading victims of human sacrifice and preserve their skulls in a sort of wooden fence. It is in that of Tlatelolco, more than 170 cranes aligned. The tzompantli was an altar where the heads of the prisoners killed to honor the gods are impaled. The sacrifice in Mayan, Aztec and other peoples of the region was a great honor.
