Si estás planeando una visita veraniega a Bilbao harías bien en procurar que caíga en tiempo de Aste Nagusia, esto es, de Semana Grande. Diez días de música en la calle, txosnas (‘casetas’) y diversión al aire libre te esperan en la capital de Bizkaia si llegas a ella a mediados de agosto.
El txupinazo (pistoletazo de salida de las fiestas) se lanaza desde el Balcón del Teatro Arriaga desde donde Marijaia, la ‘patrona’ de la celebración sale a saludar. El último día se quema esta gran muñeca a bordo de una embarcación sobre la ría. Eso si, ni se te ocurra meterte en la plaza si no estás dispuesto a mancharte de vino, cerveza, harina y otras lindezas que los más jovenes convienen en lanzar al aire para demostrar su alegría.
Cuando es Aste Nagusia todas las noches fuegos artificiales iluminan el cielo de Bilbao. Podrás disfrutarlos cómodamente desde el Puente del Ayuntamiento y alrededores. Si quieres verlos despegar sube hasta el Parque Etxebarria, desde ahí se lanzan los cohetes que compiten porque su castillo sea 'el mejor' de las fiestas.
Pero además de fuegos artificiales, durante las fiestas grandes de la capital de Bizkaia se organizan todo tipo de actividades. Desde concursos infantiles hasta pasacalles y, por supuesto, verbenas. Todos los días encontrarás música en vivo el Parque del Arenal y frente al emblemático Museo Guggenheim, además de en la Plaza Nueva del Casco Viejo y otros puntos de la ciudad. Se realizan conciertos de grandes artistas, para saber cuáles son los de ese año consulta el cartel de fiestas.
Respecto a las txosnas, están abiertas hasta bien entrada la madrugada y todas cuentan con barra en la calle accesible a todo el mundo. A mi me gusta especialmente ‘Sin Kuartel’, ubicada en mitad del Arenal, aunque hay otras más famosas como la de Gogorregi (medio techno) o la de Pinpilinpauxa (más de música en euskera pero tiene de todo). La de La Granja (en la Plaza Circular, Abando) es probablemente la más latina, de ambiente joven y un tanto macarra ara mi gusto.
En mi opinión, merece mucho la pena dejarse caer por la Aste Nagusia. Si vas con ganas de fiesta te encantará.
