A place that should not be missed, to all those ve go into this land, there is the Tomb of the Askias, or Gao Mosque, constructed in the year 1495 to house the body of the monarch, Askia Mohamed, the Emperor of the Empire Shongai ... And now it has been transformed into a mosque. The streets next to the mosque, on a big avenue and from the center, is, the neighborhood Shongai. Many of those ve live there are descendants of the monarch and his dynasty ...Reading a great book, The architect of Timbuktu-Is the Granada-Saheli, Manuel Pimentel , I learn that this mosque was the first that was constructed with this character.
