Grave of Hans Christian Andersen

The Assistens Cemetery is a large cemetery in the neighborhood of Norrebro in the north of Copenhagen. It is a popular place for people to go for a stroll or have a picnic on the grass, as the district is one of the poorest parts of town and has few green spaces. There are several old graves, the most famous for foreigners surely that of the writer Hans Christian Andersen who died in 1875. There are also several African-American musicians like Ben Webster and B-Richard Boone, who emigrated to Denmark. The oldest tombs date back to the late eighteenth century, and the cemetery was opened in 1760.
