2 reviews of Crafts in the Main Square

Handcrafts and more between hills and ravines

We traveled along the Rio Grande for much of its course then crossed these colorful hills to the "Town of the Virgin Land" - a name which was given by the native Aymara and their descendants who inhabit these lands. In the square we found lots of typical products, carpets, hats, rugs, ponchos and accessories made with vicuña crafted silver like the alpaca. Colorful straw hats that were finely stained, bags, carved wooden items, plates decorated with paintings, crafts, baskets, clay pots, rattles, bracelets, braids, Bahian, macramé, dreadlocks, etc. In one corner is "Flavors Jujuy" where they display all kinds of blankets, ponchos, carpets, mantles, antiques and unique pieces.

There are several bars and restaurants where you can eat a good locro, exquisite tamales or empanadas, besides the roast lamb of the area. When the sun goes down and shadows begin to occupy the sidewalks and driveways, artisans with their carts leave to go home through the red hills of that sunny land.
