Unforgettable atmosphere which goes unnoticed
On the way to Ephesus, from Selçuk, a small sign points you to the interesing ruin of the Temple of Artemis. I say "ruin" in the singular because a giant column and a few stones is all that remains of the Temple of Artemis. It was once one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and thousands of pilgrims traveleld to it to pay homage to the goddess Artemis, which was the ancient Anatolian goddess of fertility. In its golden age it was bigger than the Parthenon in Athens and was based on all 127 massive columns decorated with statues . Despite this, it is incredible to see the dimensions of the column and climb on top of an ancient wonder of the world.
But above all, what makes this place so special is the peace. The wreck is in a meadow where children play hide and seek. Not being part of the classic tour, you may be alone with children quietly, leaning against one of the rocks, enjoying the scenery, relaxing at the immense peace they give. A place that oozes history and legend equally. An unforgettable atmosphere, which goes very unnoticed.
