Arnelas Bridge
Arnelas Bridge is located in the place of the same name. It was built in the sixteenth century and we visited this weekend to mark the Medieval Fair II in a beautiful natural setting by the river Umia. It is said that the bridge is related to a prenatal christening ritual, when a pregnant woman would go to the bridge and the first man passing was asked to baptize her stomach with river water. In the event that the pregnancy came to fruition, that man would be the real godfather of the baby.
