Arcos de la Frontera

One of Spain's most beautiful towns

The photos themselves show pretty clearly that this is no ordinary town. The atmosphere is magical, like being in another world. In my opinion, it's the most beautiful of all the famous White Villages. It's 70km. from Cádiz and you can get there by bus which leaves you at the station in the lower part of town. There's a population of around 30,000 people and the main source of income is tourism. There's a castle, the parochial church of Santa María de la Asunción, and the town hall.

But, the main thing to see here is the town itself. It's a real delight to walk through the white streets, admiring the small little squares and entering into the handicraft stores.

Beauty, natural setting, and sheer whiteness

This is one of the most famous towns among the White Villages. It's obvious that its beauty, natural setting, and sheer whiteness have made it so famous. It's the one they use on all the postcards, and they one they use to represent the White Villages as a whole. And truth is that they have a point. The town is impressive and wherever you look. Just to be contrary, we took photos from the other side of town than the most postcard-ish side. And, wherever you are, it's still the same old beautiful Arcos de la Frontera.
