Asuka-Fujiwara Archaeological Sites

1 review of Asuka-Fujiwara Archaeological Sites

Worth a visit

There are archaeological sites that have been found around Asuka Valley (birthplace of Japanese culture as we know it today), south of Nara prefecture. These deposits date back to the late Kofun period and early Asuka period - the equivalent of the third and seventh centuries in the west, when Tokyo was just a barren field. Among the sites, highlights include the imposing tomb stones of Ishibutai (the late Kofun period), named a national historic site in 1957. Other interest sites of importance are Sakafuneishiseki, Kamekata, and Dekobangata Sekizoubutsu.
