An important monument
Majestic and beautiful, aqueducts played an important part in the development of civilisation. The Romans were the pioneers of this type of engineering, which transfers water from one point to another on stone arches, built with a slight inclination. The Arcos da Lapa aqueduct dates back to 1893, and is 125 metres long. Unique and magnificent, it is one of the most historically significant monuments on the island.
