Magnificent roof
The Museum of Applied Arts is most famous for its magnificent roof covered with colorful Zsolnay tiles and, for better or worse, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Budapest. We went early Sunday morning and after paying the reasonable entry fee (about 3 euros), got to visit the temporary and permanent exhibits. The museum traces the history of furniture and decorative arts from the Gothic era to the modern. We saw a temporary exhibit of sacred art, including a spectacular Ottoman carpet. The building itself is worth the visit as the vaguely-Eastern interior architecture is just fascinating.
