Great front row seats

Unlike 99.99% of my countrymen I am a big baseball fan and in my travels to the United States the sport always has a special place for me. This was my first time traveling with my family (not counting an Orlando Christmas trip, where we had no time for anything but theme parks), so we had different priorities, but I still knew that I needed to see some baseball! I wanted to see the Chicago Cubs play, but as the stadium is small, it's hard to get tickets. I had the chance to see a game in Cincinnati, but I'm not exactly a fan of the Reds and the prices also rose to $ 100 apiece. In the end, some friends in Lexington, Kentucky, invited us to watch one of their local team's games. So we went to see the Legends, who play in the A category, the lowest in professional baseball.

The Legends play their home games at Applebee's Park, with a capacity for 6,500 spectators. It's not much, but compared to the stadiums where baseball is played in Spain, it was a marvel. For six dollars each, we had great front row seats next to first base ... A luxury. We were lucky that it was the 'Fan Appreciation Day', the day when the clubs thank the crowd for their loyalty during the season (late August), usually with gifts and special performances. The American environment is incredible: everyone stands to sing the national anthem, eats hot dogs and drinks beer, and cheers loudly for the home team! And in the end, there were fireworks. Overall we had a blast for 400 or 500 euros less than it would have cost in Chicago, and we enjoyed a genuine atmosphere of the American heartland.
