Views are breathtaking

A few kilometers from Oviedo on the road leading to the monuments, we had the opportunity to see one of lesser know parts of Oviedo. Unfortunately we also had the opportunity to witness the ashes being scattered of a person who's last wish was that their families and friends met their to do such. What a person he must have been. We left the car in the parking lot and began a short walk along the path indicated to climb to the top. It is quite difficult but the views are breathtaking. Highly recommended visit.

Oviedo from the Alto del Naranco

Crowning the top of this mountain is Naranco Recreational Area, an area 600 meters in height; formerly, this area was a military camp target practice, and the remaining debris, but now has a picnic, parks and swings for children. Also at the top is the monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a huge sculpture of 1950 reflected in the figure of Jesus symbolically embracing and protecting the city of Oviedo. Lit from 1992, as contained embedded pedestal of the Victoria Cross (35 meters), symbol of the history of Oviedo and Asturias, this cross was before 1990 crowning the sculpture, but the wind source discouraged its original location for his current location. On the hillside a footpath also runs very popular with daily Oviedo, known as "Track Finnish" which part of Naranco City neighborhood and runs through the forest for about 2.5 km until Fitoria, but may continue on the road.

Upstairs there are picnic

Arriba hay merenderos

Excellent
The climb can be done walking although it is a chunk but it is all asphalt. Or else drive up to the Christ from where we will have the city at our feet. It is quite high so in winter it is very cold and in summer it blows. Upstairs there are picnic areas.
