A very interesting visit
One of the attractions of the district of Clackmannanshire is the Path of Towers, a group of medieval fortifications. One of the most important is Campbell Castle, which I have already described. Now Alloa Tower is another tower, located at the center of the town of Alloa, under the care of the National Trust of Scotland. The tower was built to be the residence of the Alloa branch of Clan Erskine, and designed in the fourteenth century by the famous Scottish architect, John Melvin. The ceiling and exterior structures date back to this time, while the interior rooms were renewed in the seventeen century.
It's a very interesting visit, as everything is very well explained, and the interior is a museum that explains the history of the tower. In the highest room, an actor in full Jacobite gear puts on a little show that the kids will love for the chance to see real guns, and learn more about the traditional kilt that Scotsmen wear. The tower is located in a park that offers a nice walk, and beautiful views of the city and natural surroundings.
