Popular and traditional
Alegria Restaurant is one of the establishments in the lively Plaza Mayor. It has great eats and is one of the most traditional and popular in the city. It is small, at the entrance is a bar area where you can have a wine with tapas, then there is a small, non-smoking dining room with about 8 tables. The dining room is a little bit in the Andalusian style, the socket wall tiles, the decor is made from antiques (a collection of watches), as well as decorative plates, vases and various frames with awards and diplomas obtained by the establishment. It was Sunday and had a menu priced at € 20 per person.
The dishes are home-cooked and seasonal. For the first course we chose the scrambled of the house and for second course stewed sweetbreads and roast suckling pig (piglet). It was all delicious, and more than ample in quantities. What they were not good at were the desserts: the donuts (it was All Saints day) were typical profiteroles but they were lousy, but the Swiss roll was better. Our waiter was a very nice, he greeted us well and gave us recommendations on what to order. The room was busy but we were served fairly quickly, although we had to wait a bit to order. A highly recommended place to return to.
