A modern hotel
A modern three-star 200-room hotel, a bit impersonal (a clone of so many other hotels...) and very simple (a bar with some hangers embedded in a wall niche instead of a closet) but comfortable, with a more than decent bathroom, flat screen TV and minibar. The only personal decoration is inspired by Albert Einstein; in both the rooms and common areas there are phrases, formulas and pictures of the genius scientist. It's all very clean, and the staff are friendly.
It has two additional attractions: a restaurant on the ground floor with a cheap lunch menu where the breakfast buffet is served, and a bar-lounge with terrace with a 360-degree view of Riga.
It's in the new area, close to the city's modernist buildings, with cafes, bars, and restaurants nearby. It is also very near the Church of St. Gertrude, that fans of the fictional Swedish police hero, Kurt Wallander, will know from the novel "The Dogs of Riga". As the city is relatively small, from the hotel you can walk around, but if it rains, there's a tram stop nearby. I recommend it.
