Poitou-Charentes
Between Two Rivers
The house' facades in the small town of Airvault still look medieval in appearance: nobody has told them that we are now in the 21st century. Thouet River washes its shores, while St.-Pierre river crosses its subsoil. And between the narrow streets Airvault Castle greets us with a straight face. Even after 10 centuries it seems to have remained impregnable. Where the poplars grow along the river's banks one spies a curious and charming church through their branches . A typical building that meets the seal of the region of Poitou-Charentes: full of gothic vaults and arches. The Airvault abbey museum has large collections of popular art and traditions.
