Agios Ahilios

Agios Ahilios is a beautiful island located in the Prespa lakes. It is connected to the mainland by a pontoon than 1 km in length. This is one of the best places to see the birds that inhabit the area. Agios Ahilios is definitely one of the places that most impressed me about Greece, perhaps because the day I visited it there was a thick fog that made the place look full of mysteries. Just across the pontoon we found a small house with a dilapidated boat anchored on the shore and surrounded by reeds. There are very few people living in Agios Ahilios and they seemd to be very humble people who like to live quietly, with a small garden and a few chickens.

They are fascinating. In just three hours you can travel around the island as it is tiny! It has many green spaces and lots of interesting Byzantine ruins. It is a place full of a unique charm and is not known by tourists. Though, I recommend anyone going to take some drink and food with you just in case, because there was only one place where you could buy something and when we went it was closed.
