Addo Elephant National Park

Tra i più famosi parchi sudafricani, Addo è senza dubbio uno tra i meno conosciuti, eppure riserva al visitatore incontri memorabili in un ambiente non solo idilliaco, ma estremamente sicuro e lontano dalle zone malariche. Addo dista circa 70 chilometri da Port Elizabeth, è un'immensa riserva istituita nel 1931, quando erano rimasti pochissimi esemplari degli elefanti che un tempo popolavano numerosi la zona. Oggi, grazie a questo intervento, la popolazione è tornata ancora più numerosa di una volta. Oltre agli enormi pachidermi, nel parco vivono tantissimi bufali, facoceri, struzzi, antilopi. La bellezza di Addo è l'estrema possibilità di avvistamento della fauna, grazie alle sue dimensioni piuttosto contenute: Percorrendo i circa 70 chilometri del parco, sono piuttosto elevate le possibilità di ritrovarsi nel mezzo di gruppi di elefanti che si spostano alla ricerca delle pozze d'acqua. Noi siamo addirittura rimasti intrappolati in mezzo ad una ventina di esemplari per una mezz'ora. L'impatto è davvero stupefacente, questi pachidermi sono davvero enormi ed ammirarli da pochi metri, è davvero un'esperienza indimenticabile. Naturalmente non si tratta di animali addomesticati, per cui sono necessari le minime precauzioni.

Forse uno dei parchi più belli e interessanti al mondo per gli amanti degli elefanti, il Parco di Addo si trova a circa 60 km da Port Elizabeth e si può visitare sia con tour che per proprio conto se si dispone di un'auto. Gli elefanti sono molti e splendidi, ma nel parco ci sono anche altri animali, compresi gli altri quattro dei "big five" ( leoni, leopardi, rinoceronti e bufali ). Non mancano ovviamente varie antilopi e zebre. Anche i paesaggi sono bellissimi e quindi c'è la possibilità di fare ottimi safari fotografici.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful parks and interesting in the world for lovers of elephants, the Addo Park is located about 60 km from Port Elizabeth and you can visit with a tour that is on its own if you have a car. Elephants are many and beautiful, but in the park there are also other animals, including the other four of the "big five" (lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo). Fomos ao Addo Elephant National Park sem esperar grande coisa do Parque. Ficamos surpresos primeiramente por suas lindas paisagens. Mas além disto, o Parque possui uma enorme variedade de animais que preenchem os vales abertos com uma abundante vida selvagem. Zebras, gnus, bufalos, kudus, hartebeests, impalas, leões e claro, muitos elefantes.

We went to Addo Elephant National Park without waiting much of the park. We were first surprised by its beautiful landscapes. But beyond this, the park has a huge variety of animals that fill the valleys open with abundant wildlife. Zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, kudu, hartebeest, impala, lions and of course, many elephants.
