Achilleion

This little hideaway was Sissi's preferred spot. Sissi was the Empress of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The palace was built in 1891 and Sissi spent long stays there. She loved everything "lost Greece" and soaking up the culture. This palace is near Corfu's center and it can be reached by bus. It costs 8 euros to get in (I think), and it's worth it for its views of the Ionian sea, the gardens and the Roman and Greek sculptures. This beautiful palace was built between 1889 and 1891 for Empress Sissi of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Abandoned and dilapidated after the two world wars, it was rehabilitated in 1962, thanks to Baron Von Richthoffen who attended to the regaining of some of the objects and original artwork. It is well worth a visit and you can also enjoy the beautiful gardens of the palace.
