This monument is situated in the Plaza de la Libertad, on the banks of the Lima River. It was constructed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution (Revolução two Cravos) that ended dictatorship in Portugal. It is a modern structure, consisting of a porch made of bronze, from which hangs a broken chain, symbolizing the end of oppression. The whole square jets out into small sources that make a kind of road up to the porch.
