Nazaré Canyon

Surfing is one of the most popular sports in Portugal; with so many miles of beaches, it's no wonder that this sport has become a hit with locals and tourists alike. Indeed, many tourists come to Portugal specifically to taste the waves. On the 1st of November 2011, Garrett McNamara surfed a wave of 30 metres at Praia do Norte in Nazare, a truly historic achievement! Nazare Canyon is a geographical phenomenon that creates these abnormally large waves. Whether you're a surfer or not, it's worth visiting, because the area truly is beautiful.
